The Power of Chemical Peels
Women have been using chemical peels for over 2,000 years! Cleopatra soaked in milk baths to smooth her skin. The active ingredient in milk is lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid, or AHA) and these acids (along with beta-hydroxy acids or BHAs) are still among the most commonly used types in modern peels,
Chemical Peels have been around for a long time for a good reason… they work. These days, the term ‘chemical peel’ applies to so many different formulations ranging from weaker glycolic peels that can be done at home to the strongest Phenol peels that often require sedation or general anesthesia.
Our range of chemical peels at Hamilton Skin Clinic can correct acne, age spots, discoloration, tone, fine lines (especially under the eyes and around the mouth), freckles, melasma, sun damage, and more.

Chemical Peels Options
AHA | Glycolic
AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) peels, particularly glycolic peels, use glycolic acid derived from sugar cane. These peels exfoliate the outer layer of the skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing fresher, smoother skin beneath.
Glycolic peels are effective for treating fine lines, uneven skin tone, and mild hyperpigmentation. They improve skin texture and radiance, reduce pore size, and help with acne. Suitable for all skin types, they provide a gentle yet effective exfoliation with minimal downtime.
Suitable for all skin types, especially those looking for gentle exfoliation and improved radiance.
Salicylic | Lactic
Salicylic acid, a BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid), is oil-soluble, making it ideal for oily and acne-prone skin. Lactic acid, an AHA, is milder and derived from milk, suitable for sensitive skin.
Salicylic peels penetrate deep into pores, unclogging them and reducing acne and blackheads. Lactic peels gently exfoliate, hydrate, and improve skin texture, reducing fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Together, they offer comprehensive exfoliation for smoother, clearer, and more radiant skin.
Ideal for oily, acne-prone, and sensitive skin types seeking comprehensive exfoliation.
Jessner's
Jessner’s peels combine salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. This medium-depth peel is designed for a more intensive exfoliation, effectively treating a variety of skin concerns.
Jessner’s peels are highly effective for treating severe acne, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation. They improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance overall skin tone. The treatment promotes deep skin rejuvenation with visible results after a short recovery period.
Suitable for those with severe acne, sun damage, and significant hyperpigmentation.
Trichloroacetic Acid
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) peels are medium to deep chemical peels that penetrate deeper into the skin layers. They are suitable for addressing more pronounced skin issues.
TCA peels are effective for treating severe sun damage, deep wrinkles, and significant hyperpigmentation. They promote collagen production, improving skin texture and firmness. This peel provides substantial rejuvenation, offering long-lasting results for a smoother, more youthful complexion.
Ideal for individuals with deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and significant hyperpigmentation.
Cosmelan
Cosmelan peels are a professional depigmentation treatment designed to reduce dark spots and melasma. This unique peel regulates melanin production, providing a uniform skin tone.
Cosmelan peels significantly reduce hyperpigmentation, including melasma and age spots. They improve skin radiance, texture, and clarity. The treatment also helps control acne and oily skin, offering a comprehensive solution for a clearer, brighter, and more even complexion.
Best suited for those with melasma, age spots, and uneven skin tone seeking comprehensive depigmentation.
Retinol | Vitamin A | Melasma
Retinol, a derivative of Vitamin A, is a powerful exfoliant that promotes skin renewal. It works by accelerating cell turnover and stimulating collagen production, making it a strong choice for aging and pigmented skin, including those with melasma.
Retinol peels target signs of aging such as fine lines, sun damage, melasma, and uneven pigmentation while improving overall skin texture and tone. This medium-depth peel promotes healthy skin regeneration, leading to a firmer, smoother, and more youthful appearance.
Ideal for aging, sun-damaged, melasma-prone, and uneven skin types seeking rejuvenation and long-term skin improvement.

Chemical Peel Types
Mild Peels
A series of mild chemical peels—on the face, neck, and/or chest—every few weeks is great for busy people for significant results with minimal downtime. Mild peels are the AHA peels or fruit acid peels, most commonly Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, and Lactic Acid, and can help improve acne scars, skin tone and texture, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce the effects of sun damage.
Medium-strength Peels
Medium-strength peels use some of the same acids in mild peels, just at a much higher level. Look to medium-depth chemical peels to remedy moderate wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. You may also be a candidate if you have heavy sun damage, leathery skin, and coarse wrinkles that are visible even at rest. Medium-strength chemical peels may also help correct acne scars.
Deep Chemical Peels
Deep chemical peels are the strongest out there, targeting deep wrinkles, sun damage and uneven tone. They are helpful in treating vertical lines around the mouth and they work best on lighter skin, since there is less of a risk of hyperpigmentation or bleaching. There is some real downtime with these peels. Crusting and post-procedure redness are a symptom and can last for weeks. The trade off is dramatic, long-term results.
